MS PowerPoint is a great program for presenting visual materials but as we have seen in practice, if it is not used well, it can turn an interesting lesson into a dull one by reducing an effective speaker to a reader of slides.
In this assignment, there are two parts:
Part I is to create a PowerPoint for your lesson that is structured around a narrative or story. Stories make the concepts that you are attempting to teach more interesting since a story provides an application for the concepts. Some examples include:
1. A fictional character is in search of a special item and has to travel to locate it (water in the solar system, animals that work on the farm).
2. A story could be told from the point of view of two different characters to illustrate part of a story. (the story of the three little pigs from the point of view of the wolf for example)
3. A problem could be presented for a character to solve. (How much money do I need to play a video game – What coins yield that amount?)
You are free to use any of these examples as the basis for your presentation and to discuss your ideas with your classmates. The objective is for you think about creative ways to present material using media that moves beyond basis lists.
In addition, your PowerPoint should have the following elements:
1. You should use a template
2. You should have transition effects between the slides
3. There should be ten slides including a title slide
4. The title slide includes
a. The title of your presentation
b. Your name
c. IT 365 Fall 2009
d. Dr. Karen Juneau
5. There should be an image or clip art on every slide
Part I of this assignment is due on Wednesday, November 11, 2009. Your work will be showcased to your peers in that class session.
Part II of this assignment is an exercise that illustrates what you have learned about creating animation.
You are to create a PowerPoint Presentation that consists of only two slides. The first is a title slide that includes:
1. The title slide includes
a. The title "Animation Assignment"
b. Your name
c. IT 365 Fall 2009
d. Dr. Karen Juneau
2. The second slide contains your animation. This can be on any subject that you wish but it must include the following elements:
a. Original graphics that you created
b. At least five animation effects of your choice
c. The first animation must start with a click of the mouse.
d. The remaining animations must start either the same time as the first or after the first animation has competed. (In other words, you should only have to click on the slide one time to view the entire animation)
Part II of this assignment is also due on Wednesday, November 11, 2009. Your work will be showcased to your peers in that class session.
You will submit both of these assignments to me at karen.juneau@gmail.com at the end that class session as attachments.
