Final Printouts

You will need to printout all materials that you have produced this term and place them in a inexpensive braded folder (not a ring binder) with pockets:

This includes:

All web pages
Your blog
A slide printout of your power points (six slides per page on handout)
A printout of your animation slide
A printout of your Movie (this can be a screen shot)
Copy of your assistive technology assignment
Copy of your online assessment/ web tool assignment

You will be given any assignments of yours that I still have at the next session for inclusion in this notebook.

You will also need to bring to class a CD/flash dirive that has the following items burned or saved to it:

Your animation
Your PowerPoint
Your movie maker movie

Remember I must keep this so buy a very cheap flash drive or CD (Try Walmart or Target). You will not get this back.

Label the drive or CD with a Sharpie and place it in the folder pocket.

The purpose of this notebook is to document your work for this term for program review.

You should be able to turn this in at the end of the next class session.

Exam Schedule -Please Comment

Exam Schedule

Thanks to two of your classmates, I learned something last week. All term I have been referring to the exam schedule. I now know that some of you do not know what I am talking about.

The final exam schedule is set by the university for all classes before the term begins. The reason this is done is so that you will not likely have more than two exams on one day. As a faculty member, I am not to move the date or time without a very good reason and to move the date or time I must have the change approved by the administration.

This is posted for every term on the Registrar’s page at http://www.usm.edu/registrar/exam_schedule/index.php

The final exam listing for this term is located at:
http://www.usm.edu/registrar/exam_schedule/fall%202009/index.php

Click on the Gulf Coast text link for Coast classes; Hattiesburg schedules are on this home page for the above link; these are not the same schedules.

According to this schedule, your final exam is from 1:30 until 4:00 on December 7, 2009 for this course.

I have requested that I be allowed to begin the exam at 12:30 since some of you have child care concerns. This would change the exam time to 12:30 until 4:00.

We will complete the showcase of student work on the exam date since it is unlikely that this will be complete on Wednesday. This is how I would like to structure exam day.

12:30 -1:30 First seating for exam for those who can make this time.
1:30 - 2:40 Conclusion of student showcase
(Students who complete the first seating leave at the end of showcase)
3:00 – 4:00 Second seating of exam for those who could not make the first seating.

This retains the original time slot for the exam while accommodating child care concerns.

Please leave a comment on this post and let me know if you will take the exam during the first seating. If no one wants the first seating, I need to know this before I obtain permission to offer the exam at that time.

Monday, November 23, 2009

As announced last week, on Monday, November 23, 2009 class attendance for the session on that date is optional. A number of you will be out of town and there are some student competitions and related conferences on that day. Some of you have childcare issues since schools are closed in many districts today.

I will be at the classroom at the regular time to help any of you with your projects that chose to attend. I will wait until 12:45. At that time if no one has arrived, I will assume that no one is attending this session and I will leave.

Please remember to work on your marching orders (see previous post). if you cannot attend this session. You must have all completed before November 30, 2009. You will show case your Movie and Animation in that session to your peers.
According to the Gulf Coast Exam Schedule, your exam is on Monday, December 7, from 1:30 until 4:00 p.m. our regular location. Plan to stay for the full session.

Have a Happy and safe Thanksgiving and drive safely to where ever your road takes you.

How to add an "email" link to your blog

Found a great set of instructions for adding an email link to your blog.

Follow the instructions at this link.

http://www.bloggertricks.com/2008/01/email-me-htmljavascript-code-for-your.html

You may use either the text link or the image link (the little envelope is cute! . . . don't worry you do not have to use the image link). You just have to have a working e-mail link that does not display your address.

Do not forget to change the email address in the text to to your own email address.

Marching Orders For End of Term

The end of term is fast approaching and it is time to take stock of what needs work and what is finished.

Items noted in italics will be reviewed in class so that you can complete these activities. Note that this means if it is noted in Italics you have not yet been assigned this part so don't misread this and think you are behind.

Concept Maps

  1. You should have a complete planning map for your lesson that could be used by a fellow teacher and a concept map for use by the students to understand the lesson. These maps should be updated to include how you will assess the lesson and the new materials that you have developed such as you web page and course blog. The final version of these maps will be posted on your course web page. You may post these at any place that you believe is appropriate. ( I suggest the parent or contact page for the planning map and the student resource page for the concept map) Note there are two separate maps and that the planning map that you used to design your web page (if you created one) is not to be posted. You should export these files as a .jpg to post them. These may shrink up quite a bit when posted but that is OK.

Your web page

  • Your course web page should include five enrichment activities (links) for your lesson with a short description about each link and why it is worth visiting.
  • Your course web page should have five total pages; a home page and four pages that link to that home page.
  • You should have a home page link on all linked pages on your course web site. (This means that you can visit a page by clicking on a link and return to the home page by using a link). The home page link should be paired with an image (such as a small house) so that it is easy to locate. This is included for every home page link.
  • You should have content on all pages and the images must be copyright free. There should be an images the links to your pages from the home page.
  • On your web page, there should be an email link, a link to your blog, a listing of the URL and an update notice.
  • You should have used a table for layout on one of these pages and you should have removed the border from at least one table.
  • Make certain that you have content on all of your pages.

Blog

  • Your blog should have a link to your web page
  • Your blog profile should include an e-mail link
  • You should have at least six posts to your blog
  • You blog should include at least one image (you do not have to include a photo, you may include any image)

Adaptive Technology Assignment

  • This was a set of questions that were sent via e-mail and hard copies were distributed in class. You should have completed these questions and submitted your answers

Gadgets and Widgets

  • You should have added at least three gadgets or widgets to your blog such as FEEDJIT, Slide Show or a link list.
  • You should have added five web sites related to your lesson that could work as enrichment activities to your web site. These can be the same sites you located for your web page.

Web tools

  • You should have completed a web tool assignment that required you to create a checklist, a rubric and an online exam.

PowerPoint

  • The first PowerPoint was to be organized around a narrative.
  • The second PowerPoint was a single slide animation.
  • The directions for this assignment were posted on this site in an earlier post.

Turnitin

  • This will be completed in a single class session.

Movie

  • Your movie should be on general topic rather than a personal topics
  • You should have ten images (including the title and credit images)
  • You will need a credit and title image
  • You need to include transitions and special effects
  • You need to include music
  • The final movie should be saved to a CD so you can turn in this file.

Final Exam

  • The final exam will consist of three parts. Part 1 will be multiple choice questions drawn from Chapters 9-14 of your textbook. It is suggested that you review the textbook website to review for this section of the exam. (http://wps.ablongman.com/ab_bitter_techclass_1).
  • Complete the take home part of the exam and bring this to class on the day of your final exam.
  • Take the exam

Wow! We covered a lot of ground this term. Let me know if you have any questions about this list. All work must be submitted at the time of the final exam.

The showcase session is the last session before the final. You will share your web page, blog and movie with your peers.
